Hi I know this is not the right place to talk about this but I really need help with Xbee arduino connections.
I was watching your video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VfiyDBjegs
trying to find help on connecting muti-Xbee --> Xbee --> flash.

I know that you used to have a few tutorials teaching people how to do it before but I believe you have already taken them out of your blog.

Could you email it to me please?

Thank you very much

Stephane,

In terms of my blog, I will likely not post any additional content around Flash, but I don't see that as Adobe turning it's back on Flash. Adobe has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to Flash, even just as recently as yesterday at a community summit held at Adobe San Francisco, CA. Flash is critical to the continued revenue of Adobe, we most certainly do not want to get rid of it.

As for me personally, I believe that web standards has a number of weak points today (but it is maturing very rapidly). Those weak points often map directly to things Adobe does well. Creative workflow tooling is one that really comes to mind (then features such as camera, microphone, and much more). The opportunity for Adobe to contribute to the forward direction of web standards is important for everybody. No other company knows those gaps as well as Adobe.

My mission remains the same as it has always been - the thing that gets me to work in the morning is teaching developers to build the best UX possible, regardless of the underlying runtime. Before I did Flash, I pushed the envelope on Java Swing. Before that C. I've even had a shot at making COBOL applications look decent in the past. These days, web standards interests me. Who knows what that will be in the future.

Two cents,
Kevin

Hi Kevin!

Thank you for your response. I do have all the appropriate permissions declared in the mainfest and I have been testing with my actual phone, not the emulator. If I have GPS enabled, but Google Location Services disabled I don't get any geolocation data but once I enable Google Location Services I get data (not accurate of course).

I'm really enjoying how easy phonegap and jQuery Mobile make it to create a app though! Wow, it is like magic! I think a few more additions to the API and it will be a amazing product.

One of those additions that I would love to see would be the ability to play videos from the Assets directory. It is on my Christmas wish list :)

So I guess you won't talk about Flash at all from now on also? It would be funny if it wasn't tragic, to see all of Adobe's people turning their back at Flash as it has just never existed.

Adobe wants to get rid of Flash. You guys should have at least have the courage to say it, because for now on you are just lying to thousand of developers who have trusted you for years.

Mikel,

Android applications have an XML manifest file that goes along with them to tell the device (and the market itself actually) what device features your application can use. Look for the tag "uses-permission" and make sure you have entries for both "access course location" and "access fine location". That's what comes to mind first. From there, keep in mind that if you are testing in the emulator, that it doesn't emulate the GPS - you have to test that on a physical device. Also note that it is entirely possible for the GPS to be turned off at the system level, so always account for not getting any reading back, or an error, depending on how you are approaching it.

Hope this helps,
Kevin

Thanks for your phonegap examples. I have been playing with phonegap and have had a lot of luck making my first app. The issue that I ran into though (and haven't resolved...it may have to wait for a later release) is geolocation. For the life of me I can not force phonegap to fire up the GPS on my Android device. It will use the Google Location Services just fine. But that isn't accurate enough. Have you had any luck with geolocation? And yes I did try: enableHighAccuracy: true. Anyway, any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, back in October of 2010 my blog was hacked. Most of my content was infected with JavaScript/PHP code injection. The Arduino articles were part of that content. I tried working through it for a long time, which is why I'm just getting back at blogging, but eventually simply decided that the old content was just too much work to save. Feel free to email me with any questions and I'll see if I can help. (khoyt _ adobe _ com) I should also point out that there's a fair amount of Arduino content from me on <a href="http://tv.adobe.com/search/?q=arduino" rel="nofollow">Adobe TV</a>.

That indeed does rock!

As a flash developer myself I get so much negativity towards Flash right now and i don't think people realize how much flash can do. I told a client the other day that some apps on Itunes are built in flash. He was gob smacked to say the least.

I hope Adobe does more promotions like this to make clients aware of the power of flash.

Adnan,

Well, it's a database at it's core. It generally won't be seen by the users. If you wanted to control users, you'd first want to setup a User class. Then from there, you'd have a (multiple?) content classes - each with the object ID of the user that can access that data. Relational data like that, in my limited experience so far, tends to get chatty on the wire, but is fairly transparent to the user.

But to be sure, I'd ask the Parse guys. They respond quickly to Twitter and email, and they have a "Support" system baked into their web site. There's almost always somebody there to chat with about your problems.

Thanks for reading,
Kevin

Hello Kevin, interesting product indeed!
Can you tell me if user groups are supported so users can access shared data or it is basically single user backend ?

By groups I mean ability to assign users A & B to a group based on their username: user A logs in the mobile app on phone P1 and stores data D, user B logs in the mobile app on phone P2 and can retrieve data D as it is shared at group level.

Than you :)

Yes, it is still in beta. I do not have any beta codes for Parse to hand out. I have found that generally speaking, if you put in a request for access, that request usually gets granted in a day or two. I'll see if I can get some beta codes and will pass them along if I can.

Thanks for reading,

Do you have any beta codes to share? Or do they hand them out quickly after request?

Ben,

Thanks for watching my videos! More Arduino goodness in the future to be sure. In the meantime, just so I'm clear, you want to send a signal from Flash/AIR to the Arduino and then in turn have the Arduino control something connected to it? If that's what you're looking for, then yup, I have just the thing. Well, two things actually. <a href="http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-evangelists-kevin-hoyt/physical-computing-with-arduino-connecting-to-adobe-flash/" rel="nofollow">This Adobe TV video</a> shows both directions, but specifically you're looking for the last half where a signal from Flash controls an LED lamp. The code is on <a href="https://github.com/parkerkrhoyt/ArduinoTV" rel="nofollow">my GitHub account</a>. You're specifically looking for the "led.fla" and "sketches/flash_blink.pde" files. You might also check out the RGB LED examples (<a href="http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adc-presents/physical-computing-with-arduino-rgb-led/" rel="nofollow">AdobeTV</a>) for something a little more complicated in terms of data going to the Arduino.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for watching my videos! More Arduino goodness in the future to be sure. In the meantime, just so I’m clear, you want to send a signal from Flash/AIR to the Arduino and then in turn have the Arduino control something connected to it? If that’s what you’re looking for, then yup, I have just the thing. Well, two things actually. This Adobe TV video shows both directions, but specifically you’re looking for the last half where a signal from Flash controls an LED lamp. The code is on my GitHub account. You’re specifically looking for the “led.fla” and “sketches/flash_blink.pde” files. You might also check out the RGB LED examples (AdobeTV) for something a little more complicated in terms of data going to the Arduino.

Hey Kevin!

first off i love your video tutorials, very helpful. I recently watched one about connecting the Xbee to arduino. I was wondering if you have any tutorials showing how to use flash to control the arduinos outputs. it would be appreciated
